Transportation - General Information
When traveling around Calgary, you will hear reference to the four quadrants of the city (NE, NW, SE, SW). The University of Calgary is located in the NW quadrant. The airport is in the NE quadrant. Many city roads are named by number and quadrant (e.g. 24th Ave. NW), with numbers starting low near the city centre and increasing as you move away in any direction. Roads traveling in the North-South direction are generally named Streets, while roads traveling in the East-West direction are generally named Avenues. The main University campus is bounded by 24th Ave NW on its southern edge, 32nd Ave NW on its northern edge, Crowchild Trail on its eastern edge (approximately 24th St NW) and Collegiate Blvd on its western edge (approximately 37th St NW). Zoom in on the map above to navigate.
Travel around the city is by auto, taxi, bus and light rail (C-train). The ‘University’ C-train (light rail) station is located at the east edge of campus, near the Biological Sciences building on Crowchild Trail. From there you can travel north-west (Tuscany train) to several shopping malls (Brentwood, Dalhousie, Crowfoot stations), or south-east toward the downtown (Bridlewood-Somerset train). Adult fares are $3.15 flat rate anywhere the public transit system goes in the city. You can transfer between the train and buses with no additional fee within 90 minutes of purchasing your ticket (keep your train ticket as a transfer pass, and ask for a transfer if you first board a bus). You can purchase tickets at any of the train stations before you board the train (cash, debit, credit) or by cash on the bus. You cannot purchase tickets on the train itself, so be sure to purchase tickets before you board. It’s an honour system to board the train (purchase your ticket first and walk on when the train arrives), but keep your ticket with you in case an inspector asks to see it. Use of the train is free to shuttle along 7th Avenue downtown. However, if you are catching a train on 7th Ave with the intention of traveling elsewhere (e.g. back to the University), or are elsewhere and intend to travel to 7th Ave (leaving the University), then you must purchase a ticket before you board the train.

Transportation - Arriving by Air, Getting to the University, and Parking on Campus
Calgary’s international airport (YYC) is located in the north-east quadrant of the city. If you need any help when you arrive at the airport, just ask one of the many airport greeter/volunteers you’ll find around the airport. They are easy to find in their white cowboy hats and red vests, and are there to assist.
Shuttle services: Here is a link to information on shuttle services from the airport.
Taxi and limo services are available at the airport just outside the baggage claim area. It’s about a 25 minute cab ride from the airport to the University, depending on traffic, and will cost 40-45$. Here is a link to taxi services from the airport.
Rental Cars: All major car rental agencies are available at the airport on the departures (upper) level, just across from the terminal.
Public transportation from the airport to the University is available, and although less expensive than a taxi it’s more complicated. Light rail transit (LRT/C-train) stops at the University (University station) but, unfortunately, does not yet run to the airport, thus, a bus connection is required between the airport and C-train (you can use your Bus ticket to transfer to the train). Take the 300 bus at the airport (300 BRT Airport to Downtown) to the 5th St/7thAve SW station. Then it’s a short walk north-west to the 7th Ave/4th St C-train station. Board the 201 C-train (red line) toward Tuscany, and get off the train at the University Station. The whole trip will take about 90 minutes. This will place you on the east edge of campus, about a 10 minute walk to Alma and the residences. For the Best Western Village Park Inn, you can get off the C-train one stop earlier, at the Banff Trail station. Note: If you are catching the bus at the airport there is a surcharge above the normal fare; you will require a ‘Calgary Transit Boarding Pass’ available for $9.50 at the bus zone vending machines, or cash on the bus (no change provided).
Parking: Pay parking is available in Lots #10, 11 and 32 (download a PDF of parking lot locations). These are pay-per-entry, $7, subject to change. For those staying in residence, you will obtain more information about where to park when you check in
