Executive Council - Position Descriptions
President. The President shall preside at the meetings of the Society and the Council. The President will assume leadership for the Society, set its agenda, maintain communication with other evo-devo societies, and help define the directions in which the Society will move.
President-Elect. The President-Elect collaborates with the President to become familiar with the programs of the Association and its governance. They assist and support the President as needed during the roughly six-month period between their election and the PASEDB biennial conference, after which they become President. The President-Elect also takes over as President in case of absence or disability of the President. A*
Past-president. The Immediate Past President provides advice and leadership to the Council regarding past practices and other matters to assist the Council in governing. The Immediate Past President supports the President and the President-Elect on an as-needed basis for two years. This period spans from the PASEDB biennial conference at which they ceded the presidency through the next conference. The Immediate Past President performs the duties of the President in the absence or disability of both the President and President-Elect.
Secretary. The Secretary keeps the records of the PASEDB, including (1) preparing minutes of all Council meetings and (2) organizing and maintaining reports and records of the Society. The Secretary is also responsible for regular communications between the Council and the Society's membership and biennial conference attendees. B*
Treasurer. The Treasurer manages accounting for all Society funds and is responsible for their investment. The Treasurer prepares an annual statement to the members on the financial status of the Society. A
Educational and Professional Training Officer. This Officer will organize and implement the educational and professional training efforts of the Society. A
Development Officer. The Development Officer oversees fundraising for the Society, including development and submission of meeting grant proposals and solicitation of corporate and philanthropic donations to further the Society’s mission. B
Membership and Registration Officer. The Membership and Registration Officer acts on applications for membership to the Society and works to increase Society membership. They will also produce invoices for membership dues, track registration and membership, and check for member/registrant inquiries. A
Awards and Election Officer. The Awards and Election Officer administers all Society elections and guides Executive Council decision-making on all society awards. B
Communications and Web Officer. The Communications and Web Officer maintains and updates the website of the Society (either directly or via a vendor) and supervises Society advertising. A
Media Officer. The Media Officer will release press announcements in consultation with the President and Executive Council and implement social media marketing and messaging for the Society. B
Latin American Liaison Officer. The Latin American Liaison Officer will work to increase the engagement of Latin American scientists in the Society and promote evo-devo in Latin American countries. B
Trainee Representative. The Trainee Representative will be a student or postdoc, the latter within five years of their Ph.D. at the time of the election. The Trainee Representative will work to increase the engagement of student and postdoctoral trainees in the Society and develop resources to help prepare student and postdoctoral trainees for their future careers. A
Diversity Officer. The Diversity Officer will work to increase the engagement of researchers from groups traditionally underrepresented in science in the Society and in science at large. B
